The Linux Foundation Website
In late 2021, I joined the Linux Foundation as the Head of Brand and Design. The foundation, known for its commitment to the advancement of open source technology, required a comprehensive redesign of its informational website to enhance its outreach and user engagement.
Challenge
The existing website faced several issues, including a disorganized structure, lack of engaging content, and an uninspiring visual identity. These factors contributed to a subpar user experience, limiting the foundation’s ability to effectively communicate its mission and initiatives.
Solution
My strategy focused on the following key areas:
Enhanced Structure: We restructured the website navigation, making it easier for users to find information and resources.
Engaging Content and Imagery: We incorporated more dynamic content, including updated images and multimedia elements, to create a more immersive experience for visitors.
Energetic Color Palette: A refreshed color palette was introduced to reflect the organization’s innovative spirit and enhance visual appeal.
We also transitioned the website from WordPress to HubSpot, leveraging the platform’s robust capabilities for better performance and management.
Results
The redesigned website was successfully relaunched in 2022. Initial feedback indicated significant improvements in user engagement and satisfaction, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new design in achieving the Linux Foundation’s goals. The project not only revitalized the online presence of the foundation but also reinforced its commitment to fostering a thriving open source community.
This case reflects the importance of user-centric design and strategic planning in transforming digital platforms for non-profit organizations.
